A pair of mid 19th century Welsh wool samplers, circa 1845

Β£190.00

A pair of very pretty mid 19th century Welsh wool samplers stitched by J and L Williams circa 1845 (most likely sisters). They are similar in design with beautiful motifs of bowls of fruit, flowers, trees, vases of flowers and hearts beneath neatly stitched rows of alphabet lettering.

They are framed in antique birdseye maple veneer frames with gilt slips.

They are both in lovely condition. The wool stitching and backing gauze are fully in tact and the colours of both needleworks are superb and vibrant. There is wear to the frames with loss of veneer in places.

J Williams 38.5cm x 28cm

L Williams 39.5cm x 28cm
